The Big Bang meets WinterLights
It may sound a recipe for an astronomic disaster but this is a far from a calamity. This is definitely a win, win situation. Local entrepreneur Max Mason is supporting Oxford Inspires for the second time. His sponsorship of the 2007 Luminox brought his sausage restaurant, Big Bang, the exposure he wanted whilst supporting the people it serves.
Max Mason, proprietor of the Big Bang, a much praised and popular sausage restaurant based in Walton Street, sees his sponsorship of this year's WinterLights once again as a way of supporting his local area and its people.

And on the Seventh Day, he created Sausage
God created the original Big Bang, Max Mason created the second one.
Now, to celebrate the CERN Big Bang experiments on 10th September, the Big Bang on Walton Street has created a Swiss-Franco inspired sausage ring served over a simple creamed mash with a rich red wine gravy accompanied by garden peas and braised red cabbage.
It will be followed with a Black Hole chocolate dessert doused in custard.

Winner: Anti-Valentine's Day Poem Competition
We received a lot of really creative entries this year and it was tough to choose, but we did choose a winner in the end. Congratulations to A. Pirate for the winning entry below:
Send me no cards; please spare me from cupid,
For it’s well known that winged-babies are stupid.
Don’t speak to me in your sickly-sweet rhymes,
Or I’ll pack you off to a college for mimes.
Bring me no roses, white, pink or red.
For if one thorn pricks me, you’ll wish you were dead.
Don’t leave me chocolates, shell-shaped or not,
I’m allergic to sugar; I’ll break out in spots.
Take me for no loving walks by the Isis,
I’d much rather work through a dire essay-crisis.
Buy me no drinks, no gin and no tonic,
I’ll just pity you for the gesture moronic.
If, on this Thursday, you make my teeth gnash,
It best be because of my sausage and mash.
~ A. Pirate

Last year's winner:
Do they have a day each year,
Where they serve tee-total people beer?
Each year, do they take the chance,
To humiliate the injured by having a dance?
Once in every solar path,
Do they point at the unfunny and laugh?
When twelve months have passed them unawares,
Do they give free money to millionaires?
When a whole year has gone by again,
Do they hand out umbrellas when there is no rain?
No.
But, once a year they group and mingle,
In a concerted effort to humiliate the single.
They buy each other chocolates and flowers,
And stare at each other for hours. And hours.
The worst thing, when push comes to shove,
Is that they get rewarded for being in love!
As if love wasn’t reward enough –
Being single on Valentines’ day is tough!
So to help me circumvent my Valentine’s rage,
Give me and five others some mash and sausage.

Winner - Best Local Food!
We are very pleased to announce that The Big Bang Oxford has been awarded the Best Rural Retailer for 2007 for the South of England in the Best Local Food category!
Sara Rutherford, Regional Director for the South and leader of the local judging panel says: “This wonderful restaurant offers nothing but sausages from the local area, ensuring that food miles are reduced to a minimum, and that each time a customer dines there, they are supporting local suppliers. Their food is sourced from within a 20 mile radius and their message is focussed on buying local - their tag line is 'smile you're buying local'. They really support local farming and production, and their carbon footprint is tiny.”
Thank you to everyone who voted for us!
