The Big Bang was established as a small first step in trying to make the British restaurant trade a little more ethical; celebrity chefs have trained us to care about the provenance of food that we buy to eat at home, yet in restaurants we stil feel unable to ask.
Our aim is to reduce the number of food miles on a plate to less than 100, so that every meal consumed helps to boost the immediate area - small scale Oxfordshire farmers, brewers, bakes and butchers all benefit directly from you dining with us.
Because of this, awards are a flattering recognition of our ethics in a market where it is very difficult to be heard amongst a sea of chain restaurant marketing campaigns.
The Big Bang is the proud winner of many awards over the years, including The Independent's Top places to eat in Britain for under £10, Restaurant Magazine Top 10 Dishes in Britain and most recently Oxfordshire Business Awards' Best Sustainable Business in Oxford 2010.
