Big Bang Popup now closed at Brookes

We'd like to thank Brookes ever so much for being so hospitable - They have a stunning restaurant, open to the public during the day, and being able to spend a couple of weeks amidst such catering professionals was a sobering thing! We have a couple of things planned - You'll see us at Waterstone's for December 2nd and 15th where we are doing a Winter Light Special, and also a Christmas Shopping special - more details to come soon

In the meantime, keep abreast of our movements, if we weren't close enough to you last time, then catch us in our next incarnation! Or follow @BigBangPopup on twitter, if you do the Twitter thing

Sizzle you soon, Max

Going out with a Bang! Closed after 7 years, but opening at Brookes

When I took the tenancy on this building, I was told we were only going to be here for 5 months and I took what was a huge risk, however it paid off. We’ve managed to make The Big Bang into a landmark, a restaurant dearly loved by Sausageers of Oxford and further afield.
There are currently no sites in this darned costly town where we can afford to move back in, so if anyone knows of anyone who has pots of money and would like to invest, please send them for a sausage in our final week.

We went out with a Bang, but now it's high time we came back - Follow @BigBangPopup or come and find us at Gipsy Lane Brookes Restaurant every Thursday to Saturday.

My thanks
I’d like to thank all Sausageers for their loyalty over the years – I’ve often felt like Gerald Ratner, serving out of such a horrid building whilst people proclaim their love for the place and for the sausage, but am hugely grateful, hugely grateful for the warm place that the Big Bang occupies in so many people’s hearts.
If you do the Twitter thing, then do follow me @BigBangMax to be the first to hear where the Snorker Shall be seen again, either in Popup or permanent form. In the meantime, please keep your eyes open for a suitable Sausage Towers II.

Max

Planning Approved, but the Show Goes On!

On 13th July Oxford City Council approved Planning Permission for the redevelopment of the block which houses The Big Bang, however the decision to redevelop could happen at any time in the future - potentially two months from now, potentially 2 years.
It means that we will continue serving up Britain's Finest Sausage for as long as we are able at our Walton Street Sausagery - If you have any queries, please contact us on 01865 511441 and we'll reassure you that our Sausages are Continuing to Sizzle!

Big Bang Does Tuesday Jazz - Big Time

Just one quote from a euphoric Jazzee about this Tuesday Night's world class Jazz:
The Big Bang lived up to its reputation last night. What a stupendous gig, all three played out of their heads. Simon Spillett steeped in British jazz, John Critchinson keyboard legend and Paul Jefferies kept it swinging all night. Two varied sets with wonderful ballads such as "Weaver of Dreams", Tubby Hayes composition "Off the Wagon", and they closed the second set with a blistering version of "Cherokee", which John Critchinson enjoyed immensely.

Simon Spillett's playing has grown in stature over the last few years, now not a mere Tubby Hayes impersonator, if he ever was as some critics implied, he is now a formidable talent of world class. Would Dexter Gordon have sounded as he did if it wasn't for Lester Young? Great jazz musicians learn from the past masters and build their own style from that foundation.

The Big Bang are to be applauded for bringing musicians of this calibre to Oxford. Long may they continue to do so.
