Hook Norton

Hook Norton beers are proving a hit in Oxford 's latest restaurant sensation. The Big Bang, Walton Street, Jericho is the brainchild of former naval hydrologist Max Mason whose ambition it was to run his very own restaurant. "I wanted a restaurant that was different, something that just wasn't part of a national chain." Gourmet sausages, sourced from butchers in Oxford 's world famous Covered Market and a variety of potato based mashes are the main items on the menu. read more...

It's finally here, a good restaurant dedicated to the great British banger.

The Big Bang in Oxford is one of a kind, great locally made British bangers, home-made pies and top ales to accompany them.

Bored of the chain restaurant experience Maxwell Mason decided to get back to basics with some tasty British specialities. The sausages come from the nearby Oxford Covered Market and The Big Bang chef is currently trying out a duck and orange sausage and a chicken madras sausage. Though a certain amount of snobbery has kept the likes of Woolworths and Wilkinsons away from the centre and safely tucked away in the surrounding smaller towns, the central retail areas still lean dangerously close to generic.   read more...
