The Big Bang is proud to announce that Ed Stokes is our current featured artist who will display his works in the restaurant.

From the artist:

“Over the last 3 years I have been concentrating on painting Jazz icons, which I mainly do in acrylics. I studied Illustration at Leeds nearly 11 years ago and have always enjoyed illustrating and designing. I met Max (owner of The Big Bang) in 2006 and subsequently participated in an art auction held at the restaurant in Jericho, which was a great success.

More recently, I have painted commissions and have exhibited locally. I enjoy re-interpreting photographs of Jazz greats - the black and white photography of the likes of Frank Wolff and Herman Leonard have always inspired me. I love the drama in the photographs and attempt to recreate them quickly and freely. I love the contrast and the atmosphere, and my paintings try to evoke this. I tend to paint and draw in monochrome as I am currently inspired mainly by black and white photographic reference material. In the future I plan to expand into a wider range of colour, taking my own photographs of contemporary bands and artists for inspiration.”
