Kerry Day

Kerry DayI am an artist based in Bristol. I have 15 years experience of Life Drawing, Painting, and art skills including a BA (Hon’s) in Ceramics. Over the past few years I have exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions, shown in local art trails and traded at many art markets.

My current work focuses on the human body, particularly the nude, within the mediums of painting, printmaking and works on paper. I find the human figure can be unpredictable and constantly changing, making it an interesting subject to study. I’m not trying to get a likeness of the model, it’s more about being absorbed in the making process, and what I can really do with it. Whilst at the same time exploring the body, the shapes and colours it makes, its surroundings, plus showing the stillness within the body.

They become almost human landscapes, with their tightly cropped figures, which confidently dissect the picture plane, creating solid and often graphic compositions. They are undeniably figurative in content, yet offer large passages of abstraction in shape, colour and of imagery.

Influences range from the impressionists, such as Van Gogh, Gauguin and Toulouse-Lautrec through to more contemporary artists such as Jenny Saville, Tai-Shan Shierenberg, Cecily Brown and Lucian Freud.
